Why Most People Don’t Get a Flat Belly

There are two facts that drove me to write this post:

1. Getting flat abs is the common wish of millions. It is desired by both men and women of nearly all ages.

2. Most people do not get flat abs. Their desire doesn’t lead to results.

I want to know why something that so many people want, so few achieve. I want to share with you what I believe the real reasons for this are.

But first, let’s go over two of the explanations why people don’t have flat abs which I believe are false. They are simply not relevant to our discussion.

Genetics

The first such non-reason is genetics. You may be thinking that no matter what you do, your genes simply won’t let you get flat abs. No matter how much you try to do so.

Your genetic makeup certainly plays a key role in determining how easy or hard it is for you to lose body fat and build muscles. I respect the fact that some people need to work harder to change their body. Yet, this is exactly my point: you need to work harder. You’re not meant to give up and never try to change your body and get flat abs. You simply need to accept that what may come easy to some people will be harder for you.

Think of it as a challenge, not as something that you need to despair about but something that should drive you to simply work a little harder, try a little more to achieve.

Lack Of Trying

The other non-reason why people can’t flatten their belly is that they simply don’t try. Naturally, this is true. If you don’t put in the right kind of effort during your workouts and you fail to maintain a healthy diet, you will not be able to burn belly fat and you will never get a flat stomach.

However, I view this as a non-reason because plenty of people do try very hard and they still fail to see results. They do go to the gym and they do try to eat healthy, yet they can’t get their body into shape. So, blaming someone for lack of trying may not really help them to solve their problem. It may just make them more frustrated.

The Real Reasons

So, what may be the real reasons why people can’t get their stomach into shape?

I believe that the real reasons are these:

Throwing Money at The Problem

A lot of people think that they can buy anything, including a flat stomach. This is why they continually throw money at this problem trying to “buy” it away. They spend a lot of money on ab machines such as the Ab Circle Pro or the Ab Rocket. They try various gadgets or pills or special foods sold with dubious claims and the promise of a swift fat loss. Often, these lead to nothing.

Even buying one abs program after the other is a sign of throwing money at the problem. They’re not really looking at the right place for the solution. They try to find a low-effort way to get flat abs.

The truth is that no matter how much money you spend, unless you are willing to put in a lot of work, you will never have a flat stomach. You will just have less money.

Failing The Diet Test

I know that you may be thinking that your diet is perfect but is it, really?

Do you know how many calories your coffee cup or soda may contain? Have you eaten at a restaurant without looking at the calorie contents on the menu? Have you ever grabbed something to eat without even thinking about it, perhaps some cake at the latest office party?

My point is that you may be keeping a good diet most of the time but you’re failing some of the time. During these “failing times”, you’re stuffing yourself full of empty calories which make it very hard for you to get a calorie deficit and you simply can’t lose belly fat without one.

Focusing Too Much On the Problem

I have written about this point in previous posts: belly fat is not a problem which can be limited to your belly. You need a total body approach to fitness. This is the only way you will ever be able to burn enough belly fat to really see your abs. Otherwise, it’s a lost cause.

This brings me to the real problem which is the fact that people don’t know how to do really effective workouts. This requires you to learn how to train correctly, make use of every second of gym time

What You Need To Do

If you want to get a flat belly you need to stop for a moment and think about how you’re going about it. Don’t look for quick fixes and don’t think you can buy a solution. This takes work and dedication.

What you must also do is be attentive and strict. Control your diet carefully. Know what you’re eating. You must also do powerful workouts, pushing yourself in the gym.

The real solution lies in you and your actions. If you take the time and create the best eating and training routine you can, you will be on your way to getting flat abs. If not, you may continue to be frustrated.
