Healthy Eating Habits - Part 2
This is the 2nd part of my article on how to eat healthy. You can find the first part here: How to eat healthy
Fresh vs. Processed
Modern society and scientific advances have done a lot of good, but they have also made the industrialization of
food much easier and common. Our supermarkets are filled with ready-made, processed food which was made with
questionable ingredients, unhealthy chemicals and stabilizers which are meant to increase the life shelf of food
items and have little to do with our health.
Furthermore, processed food is all about taste, which is why much of it is filled with unhealthy trans-fat and
high in sodium.
The solution is to eat fresh food as often as possible. It may take longer to prepare, but it often costs a
lot less, is tastier, healthier, and far better if you want to get a flat
stomach.
Make the effort to substitute pre-made food with fresh and home made food. You will see the results in your body
and will also feel much better and more energized.
Fruits and Vegetables
Snacks constitute a lot of our calorie intake. We all like to munch on something through the day at work or
school. The only thing left to determine is what those snack will be made of.
If you're going to be eating chocolate bars or dig into a bag of chips, you're going to have a big problem to
keep your daily calorie consumption down to the required level to burn fat. The easiest and healthies replacements
are fruits and vegetables.
And indeed, fruit and veggies are my favorite snacks in the world. They're filled with vitamins and
anti-oxidants (which help to keep you youthful) and low on fat. They're totally natural and super-healthy.
Going each day to work with a small bag filled with carrot or cucumber strips, an apple or orange, or any other
kind of fruit and veggie combo is a healthy eating habit if I ever so one and will help to burn off more
fat
Stop Nighttime Eating
Eating at night is something which a lot of people have trouble with. In part it has to do with emotional eating as it's often brought on by boredom and loneliness, but it also
has other, more general, causes.
First of all, our favorite food is at home because we bought it for ourselves. And as we usually spent nights at
home, our favorite foods are there at our disposal. There's nothing easier than to simply dig into them.
The second reason is that a lot of us come home hungry from work and we tend to overeat. This can be helped by
making sure to eat 5-6 small meals during the day instead of 3 big ones. This will ensure that once you come home,
it won't be that long since the last time you had something to eat, and those hunger pangs won't be as hard to
resist.
Eating at night can be a problem due to bad indigestion in our sleep, insomina in some people, and overall
discomfort due to a feeling of heaviness.
To avoid all those things try to stop eating 2 hours before your regular bedtime. A great way to make this
happen is to brush your teeth early instead of right before bedtime. Most people tend to get lazy about brushing
their teeth. They want to do it just once each night. Therefore, if you brush your teeth early, you will feel less
like eating again afterwards.
Remember the 20 minute rule
Most people eat until they stop feeling hungry anymore. What they usualy do feel when they eat is full to the
brim and bloated. This is because they're not aware of the 20 minute rule.
Our body takes about 20 minute to register that we've had enough to eat. Therefore you may have had enough but
still feel hungry. If you just wait for 15-20 minutes, you will know for sure, and often, you can eat much less
than you think you need to and still feel completely full.
To apply the 20 minute rule you need to change your eating habits. Try to eat until you're just shy of being
full instead of stuffed. After 20 minutes you won't feel any hunger at all, and you've avoided overeating.
Try it and you'll see that it works like magic.
Remember, things add up
When it comes to healthy eating habits, remember that it all adds up. 10 extra calories here, 10 extra calories
there, in the end it shows on your abs and body in general. To really get a flat stomach you need to take a lot of
small steps of nutritional improvement. And the results will show in a big way.
