How to Choose Diets Plans That Really Works

The dismal statistics are that most diets fail miserably. Indeed, over 95% of diets are reported to end in failure. People either fail to lose weight or actually end up gaining what they did lose back over time.

If you want to know why this happens you should check out my page on why diets fail. But here I want to provide you with some guidelines on how to choose a diet plan that works.

Don't Choose Deprivation Diets

Many weight loss plans are what I refer to as deprivation diets. What I mean by that is that these plans advocate cutting down a specific food group or avoiding it entirely. In this group of weight loss plans are low-carb diets, low fat diets, no fat diets, very low calorie diets, and so on.

These diets may provide short term weight loss, but they will likely fail you in the long run. The reasons for this are both physical and psychological, but suffice it to say that you are actually working against your body and not with it when you try out these weight loss plans.

So the first rule of thumb is to choose weight loss plans which allow you to eat a sensible amount of food containing all food groups.

Avoid Weight Loss Plans Based On Buying a Specific Food

This is a strictly consumerist advice. Weight loss plans which require buying a certain herb (usually oriental), a certain kind of tea, or any other special ingredient may prove expensive and there is usually a more affordable way to burn belly fat.

Also, these food items are often difficult to acquire, may require waiting to receive them by mail and so on.

Often, though, the main problem is that they simply don't work as well as they're advertised. I have nothing against using supplements as some of them can be very good indeed and have many health benefits, but I recommend changing your lifestyle by acquiring healthy eating habits and working out regularly to improve your muscle tone.

Choose a Plan That Fits Your Lifestyle

There is little sense in trying to use a diet and fitness plan which just doesn't fit your lifestyle. If you travel a lot, it will be hard for you to follow a fitness plan which requires frequent gym sessions. Likewise, it may be hard to prepare your food at home and take it with you like some diet plans prescribe.

If you're strapped for time due to work, family, and other obligations, choose a workout and eating plan which don't require long workouts or much cooking.

Only you can know what your life is like and what you can do with the time you have. Make sure to not try to fit your life to a weight loss plan but fit an eating plan into your life instead.

Keep it Simple

Above all, keep things as simple as possible. Weight loss doesn't have to be complicated. It just needs to be reflected on the scale and in the way your clothes fit. Don't fall for ultra-complicated weight loss plans. Often what is simple works best for the majority of people.

Always seek out new information but don't fall prey to the latest marketing fad. There are many excellent programs to help you lose fat and get a perfect belly in the process. You need to just keep looking.
