However, nutrition and workouts are not the only factors which determine how quickly you will lose belly fat. Your lifestyle is also important. There are various things that you can do which may have a big effect on how quickly you burn abdominal fat, if at all.

Changing your lifestyle for the better may not be the easiest thing in the world as it entails letting go of bad habits and adopting new ones. It may require you to change some aspects of your routine. However, I never promised that it will be easy to get flat abs. In fact, the exact opposite is true.

In this post I want to talk about 4 ways in which you can make a big difference in how your body burns fat. This is not an exhaustive list of possible beneficial changes, but it is certainly a great place to start.

Sleep Longer and Better

The connection between adequate sleep and weight loss has been established by a number of studies. People who don’t sleep enough tend to be hungrier, are less active, and lose weight more slowly than those who sleep more. In today’s world, people tend to sleep less and less. If you want to burn belly fat, you have to get enough sleep.

Some of the ways in which you can get more, high quality sleep are:

1. Go to bed early – You will also start your day early, but you will find that it’s much easier to wake up and you’ll have more energy.

2. Go to bed at the same time – You need to train your body to sleep at specific times. This will make it simpler to fall asleep quickly.

3. Be as comfortable as you can – Make sure your bedroom is neither too warm nor too cold, don’t eat too close to your bed time, go to the bathroom before turning in.

Make Activity A Pillar Of Your Life

You go to the gym and do cardio workouts to lose belly fat and burn calories. However, activity should not be limited to the confines of a gym. You need to be active on a regular basis, throughout your day. I want you to make activity a pillar of your life. It has to be something you think about often. You need to seize every opportunity to be more active and make the most of it.

For instance, do you ever order food to your workplace? It’s much better to walk a few blocks and pick it up yourself?

Do you ever send your kids to watch TV just to keep them occupied? You will burn more calories if you play with them.

I could go on and on. At frequent times during the day we are given a choice to be active or inactive. Choose to be active and you will lose belly fat faster.

Think Before You Eat

The main reason why people gain weight in the first place is the fact that they eat too much. The question is why this happens? If your body doesn’t need all this food, why do you consume it?

There are a variety of reasons for this. Some say that the food we eat is full of chemicals that actually make us hungry. Others say that we get addicted to food. I believe that there’s a simpler way to look at this: mindless eating.

People eat food as a sort of recreational activity and they hardly think about it. You sit with a bowl of pretzels in front of the TV and munch away aimlessly. You read a book and drink a high-calorie soda.

You need to think before you eat. Just take a few seconds and think about whether you really need to eat what you’re planning to consume, whether you’re really hungry, whether the food is high quality, etc. Just thinking about eating will make you eat less low quality food.

Calm Your Belly Fat Away

One of the less known causes of excess abdominal fat is stress. Having too much stress in your system exposes you to a host of problems. One of them is the increased production of cortisol, the stress hormone. What this hormone does is increase the storage of fat around the abdomen. Basically, it makes you gain weight across the middle.

What this means is that you must fight stress and eliminate it from your life as much as you can. Avoid stressful events and people. Do yoga and practice meditation. Calm yourself down in any way you can.

Good But Not Enough

All these lifestyle changes are good. In fact, they’re fantastic. However, they are not enough to lose belly fat and get flat abs. You need to make them a part of your routine and workout regularly and eat healthy. Only when you get all of these things right will you be able to lose belly fat and get a flat belly.

HI i am getting increasingly frustrated by not being able to drop weight. It is getting me down and I am feeling depressed by it all.
I am a very busy mum of 5 and I work day and evenings and saturdays. I need a solution to help me balance all of this and take care of me too.
