A weight loss plan I recently heard about is the 2468 diet plan. I wanted to write what I though about this weight loss plan since it’s one of those catchy title diets which can easily become popular just due to its name.
Is the 2468 a reasonable diet which can really deliver long term results?
The concept of the 2468 diet is a 4 day eating cycle. On the 1st day you eat 200 calories, on the 2nd 400, on the 3rd 600, and on the 4th 800. Then, the cycle starts over again and again until you decide to quit.
As 800 calories a day is very low, this diet is a very low calorie diets. Some would say it borders on fasting. I would just say that it’s very low especially as there’s no time limit for the diet. You just keep at it.
You can definitely lose a lot of weight at the beginning with this diet simply because you hardly eat anything. However, be aware that your weight loss will include water weight which doesn’t really affect you in the long term and muscle tissue.
You will be losing muscle tissue while on the 2468 diet program. Have no doubt about it. With this kind of low calorie eating, your muscles will start to come apart as there’s not enough food in your system for them to go on. For that reason, the 2468 diet isn’t recommended for anyone who wishes to have a flat stomach and sexy abs. There will just be less muscle to see.
With this kind of low calorie eating, there is little doubt in my mind that you will see your metabolism slow down considerably. Your body will go into starvation mode and try to hold on to its calorie stores. This means that if you’re looking for a long term weight loss, this isn’t the diet to follow.
You see, once you go off the 2468 diet you metabolism will be so slow that even if you eat moderately, your weight is likely to shoot up like crazy. This is why so many diets fail, they slow the metabolism down. I’m afraid this diet will probably be among the worst in this regard.
Keeping motivated and sticking to the 2468 diet is very hard since it’s bascially a starvation diet. You may experience the following things:
- Malnutrition related symptoms
Of course, the longer you remain on this diet, the great and more pronounced its negative healthy symptoms will become.
Avoid the 2468 diet like the plague. It’s not good for you, and it’s bad for weight loss in the long run. It may also have more serious health issues.
I recommend following a more sensible eating plan which allows you to eat a reasonable amount of food each day.
You can lose weight without starving yourself. Have no doubt about it. It will not only be healthier, but will also be easier to maintain into the future.
